Did you know that the Mediterranean and the Atlantic are linked by a long-distance trail, the GR-10, which connects Puçol with Lisbon? This route begins in our town in the La Costera Natural Area and is the longest on the Iberian Peninsula, stretching 1,600 km. This trail is part of the European Long-Distance Trail Network.
The route starts in Puçol, on the shores of the Mediterranean, and enters the Sierra Calderona mountain range, passing through Segart, Serra, and Gátova. The total length of this trail within the Valencian Community is 112 km (125 km to Abejuela), of which 74 km are in the province of Valencia and 38 km in the province of Castellón. The GR-10 long-distance trail, European E7, is part of the European Long-Distance Trail Network. These 1,600 km between Puçol and Lisbon serve as a link between the seas that border the peninsula.
The Long-Distance Trails (GR) are a network of paths that extend across Spain and parts of Europe, consisting mostly of trails, tracks, and some sections of roads. These trails allow you to cross Spain in different directions, travel through France, and wander across Europe. Quite an adventure!
Taking advantage of the number and variety of these trails, we have the opportunity to explore them and different parts of Spain. In our region, we have, among others, the GR 36, an iconic and relatively easy trail that crosses the Sierra de Espadán mountain range, from Montanejos to Vilavella, or vice versa, all within the province of Castellón, considered by experts to be the second most mountainous province in Spain. This GR is also known as the Trans-Espadan.
